On September 11, 2001, we woke up to a shockingly new world. This presentation shares Christian's personal journey in the weeks following 9/11. Heeding what seemed an implacable inner urge, he's been moved to perform volunteer work on the site of Ground Zero. In the months to follow, he returned to New York again and again. Drawing on both, personal experience of 9/11 as well as study of the world's spiritual traditions, this program offers a unique perspective, uncovered during a deeply personal search for a silver lining to the tragedy.

Martyrs are usually those who give up their lives because of their faith, their convictions, for their beliefs, for a cause. In the past, whenever dedicating life to spiritual pursuits, this often meant having to leave their lives and go off an ashram or monastery. These days, we are being called to embody the sacred in our everyday lives: while at work, riding the subway, or even having sex. This program gives a spiritual insight of a new and different way of thinking about martyrdom: a martyrdom for the living.
